A few days ago we received a new batch of baskets from Haiti. Our women have created some 400 new baskets -our initial impression is that our women are flying on their own. They are creating much better quality baskets, both in terms of design and looks but also in terms of craftmanship. Here is a picture of a pile of their baskets.
More to come in the nest few days (a week or less?)

How did the baskets get from Haiti back us? There is a student “Haiti” club at UCLA. Their members were recently in Haiti. We asked the students and ProjectMedishare.org to coordinate the transport of the finished baskets to Los Angeles. So the returning students brought with them as their luggage about 9 trash bags filled with baskets.
We picked up the 9 trash bags a few days ago. We will update this site with the appropriate credits to the UCLA Haiti club and their members.
Real life problems. It is one thing to have 400 baskets in Haiti. It’s another thing to get them back to the US. It is incredibly expensive and unreliable to use postal service, FedEx etc to do this. Rough very unreliable off-the cuff guess: $10 per basket to ship them “officially” from Haiti to the US. Thanks to UCLA Haiti club members we got all the baskets free from Haiti to Los Angeles. Nine trash bags of baskets as luggage? How cool and sweet is that?
We hope to have an update within a week….
